How To Find My Dog’s Recognition Level on the SportDOG® 425X, 425XS and 425XCamo
When Should My Dog Start Training With an E-Collar?
Your dog’s ability to learn and follow simple commands, such as “Sit” or “Stay”, is more important than age. However, the collar may be too large for dogs under 8 pounds.
What is the Recognition Level?
The recognition level is the point where your dog first notices the stimulation, like flicking their ears or looking around. Every dog is different, and you cannot predict where their recognition level will be. So start low and watch for small changes. Your dog should never yelp or panic. If that happens, lower the level and try again.
Finding Your Dog’s Recognition Level

Start with the collar properly fitted and powered on. To power on, press and release the power button. For help with fit, visit How To Fit My SportDOG® 425X, 425XS and 425XCamo Collar.

Start at the lowest level. Turn the remote’s intensity level to 1.

Test this level on your dog. Press the upper button with the bump for 1 to 2 seconds.

Look for signs of recognition from your dog. This could be looking around in curiosity or flicking their ear.
Important: At no point should your dog vocalize or panic. If they do, start from the lowest level and repeat the process. If you are already on level 1, you may need to change the stimulation range. For instructions, visit How To Change the Stimulation Range on My SportDOG® 425X, 425XS and 425XCamo.
Advance to the next level. If your dog shows no signs of recognition, you may increase the Intensity Dial by one and try again. Continue increasing levels until you find your dog's recognition level.
If you have progressed to the highest level, and your dog shows no signs of recognition, you may need to increase the simulation range on the collar. For more information, visit How To Change the Stimulation Range on My SportDOG® 425X, 425XS and 425XCamo.
